& Juliet

Picture it… Juliet wakes from her potion induced slumber to discover that her beloved Romeo has taken his own life and decides… NOT to join him.

What would be next for Juliet? If you have ever wondered this then the new jukebox musical; & Juliet, is here with the answers and to explore how one moves on from the greatest love story ever told.

With a book by Emmy Award-winning Schitt’s Creek writer David West Read and music from legendary five-time GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter/producer Max Martin, & JULIET sees Shakespeare’s most famous love story remixed with some of the most iconic pop songs of the last three decades in an uplifting story of self-discovery, empowerment and love.

Starring the beloved Rob Mills as the bard himself, William Shakespeare and Amy Lehpamer as his wife Anne Hathaway, the two fight (through song of course) over what they think is best for the young Juliet after the devastating loss of her husband of three days; Romeo. Lorinda May Merrypor stars as the titular character and is an absolute powerhouse. Merrypor delivers some epic performances of hits by the likes of Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson as Juliet finds her newfound strength and her vocal talent in remarkable. Casey Donovan proves yet again just how versatile she is in the role of the rambunctious and raunchy Nurse. Donovan is hilarious and delivers a high energy performance whilst also showcasing her incredible voice. The supporting cast and ensemble are terrific. From their precision in execution of Jennifer Weber’s choreography to their upbeat renditions of some of the most classic pop songs of all time, they bring a joy and energy to the show that is simply contagious with the audience struggling to remain in their seats throughout the performance.

The design of the show is very contemporary and edgy. The set transports you to Verona and Paris and yet with the use of lighting and LED screens, the performance gives the feel of a rock concert or halftime Superbowl spectacular. The costumes are very fun with a contemporary spin on Elizabethan attire.

& Juliet first premiered on the West End in 2019 at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London. It was nominated for nine and went on to win three Olivier Awards, as well as six WhatsOnStage Awards, the most of any production that year. It is a show with a surprising amount of heart but most of all, it is great fun. Grab the gang and get on down to the Regent Theatre to check it out!
